"How Yoga has defined me"
I was no stranger to meditation and discipline as a child, practicing karate. However, as an adult I had let my physical and mental health deteriorate. A very difficult pregnancy and a traumatizing birth of my daughter took me a very long time to recover from.
Being a new mom and overweight my body and mind was out of balance. The desire to become healthy however would not come until 2 years later.
Last Christmas, 2012, I finally made the decision to change my lifestyle. Healthy food habits and the extra energy led me to wanting more physical activity. But how do you get in a workout with a child, work, and a husband working on and off out to sea? No more excuses!
The desire to start working out and practicing yoga was strong so I decided to join the gym. Even though I would be limited to workouts mostly when my husband was home, it would benefit with any extra activity. A wonderful yoga teacher at the gym mentioned a site called Yogobe, which could complement those times I would not be able to make the gym.
My practice at home now became my new addiction. The more I did yoga the better I felt. My memory of meditating came back strong, and for the first time in a very long time I felt grounded, relaxed and free from bad thoughts.
Even though I modified many of the positions in the beginning, I still got all the benefits. Then came the time where I would notice progress in different yoga positions and would jump up and down from the excitement. The progress made a big impact on my wellbeing.
Daily yoga and inspiration through Yogobe and social media drives me. Challenging myself, and proving that yoga really does heal all wounds. It has even become a thing to do together with my family and with the children at my work. I have gained something I never thought possible, a healthy body and mind. I have found the real me, and I feel free.
Namasté
