Strengthen Your Core

The core is the basis for strength and balance in our bodies. Core strength training focuses on training of primarily the abdomen and spine, to create strength and stability in areas where we usually are weak. A strong core is vital for the posture and to keep ourselves free from injury. It also increases our awareness of the body and strengthens the muscles so we can live a healthy life.

How does it work?

The main idea of core strengthening training is to build up a strong and flexible midsection that includes our abdomen as well as spine. It improves our posture and helps us deal with problems that generally are related to our desk-bound lifestyle. Core exercises look different depending on the workout. Generally you are working primarily with abdomen, pelvis, torso and the lower back. Examples of core exercises are crunches, sit-ups, the plank, and navasana (boat pose), which is one of the yoga poses for the abdominal muscles. A core class can take a few minutes up to over an hour.
