Strength & Stability
Our body faces different challenges in our daily life. What we do for work, how we work out, or not work out, how we choose to spend our free time and perform our daily tasks, all influence what state our body is in. We also have to consider the genetic aspects, which provide each individual with diverse possibilities to endure different strains. Building muscles and joints with strength training can balance our body and create sustainability for the future.
What is strength training?
The progressive overload principle is at the heart of strength training. It simply means that you are continusously increasing stress on the muscle in order to build strength. It is important to for us to build our strength, otherwise if we live a desk-bound lifestyle it could lead to our muscles shrinking and we eventually loose our strength. For that reason, overload training becomes even more important to incorporate in your workout program.
Unfortunately, we often neglect to build our strength or prioritize other exercises. But a strong and resistent body increases life quality and improves performance in other areas.
How does it work?
When you prepare for the strength training you should consider your body needs and abilities as well as what result you expect from the training. The body has some basic patterns of movement from which most exercises are based on.
Many exercises and daily movements contain combinations of several of these movement patters. Yoga is an excellent example of this! Reflect on which movement patterns you need to strengthen and incorporate this into your workout. To combine strength and cardio in your workout will give you a more effective and all-around workout.
When should I do strength training?
Everyone needs to build up their strength! It doesn’t matter if you’re a child or about to celebrate your 100th birthday, you should do some strength training. The key is to adjust the weights based on your abilities. With a few simple means you can build your strength at any time, whenever and wherever you want.
