    Immersion: Elements of Mastery 30h with Matt Giordano

Alignment based yoga tends to be dogmatic, there is one right way and nothing else. While flow based yoga practices don’t provide any support on how to do the postures or transitions. This has become the great divide in modern yoga, and this is where Elements of Mastery comes in. Elements of Mastery is a hybrid training course that provides you with technique based instruction rather than dogmatic alignment. What is the difference?

Dogmatic alignment provides you with one way of making a shape in your body, claiming that anything else is incorrect. However MOST of these “Alignment” instructions are not actually based on anatomy or bio-mechanics. They are either aesthetically based, or simply a passed down set of rules that have not been updated for decades.

<p>
    
This immersion provide’s “Chromatic Technique’s”, based on Anatomy and Bio-Mechanics. Chromatic Technique is not limited to joint alignment, it also includes isometric muscle engagements and recognizes that individual bodies require alteration of instruction. “Timing”; knowing what do to, and how to do it are part of it, but WHEN to do it is also an important part of Chromatic Technique.

About Matt Giordano

Yoga instructor Matt Giordano (500 ERYT) gives credit to an influential figure from his teenage years--his high school art teacher-- for sparking within him the curiosity and tenacity that eventually led him to yoga. It was Eileen Walk who told Giordano: "You are not allowed to say 'I can’t.' You must rephrase to a question: 'How?'"

Guincho Villa is conveniently located just a 30-minute drive or bus ride from Lisbon airport.&nbsp;Casa Guincho is located in the village of Charneca, just 15 minutes walking distance from Guincho beach, the road leading to it runs through the green Sintra-Cascais National Park. Guincho beach offers the opportunity for surfing or just relaxing under the sun. You can also take a trip to the nearby idyllic beach town of Cascais.&nbsp;The highlight of the villa is its very own large saltwater swimming pool, and beautiful garden area where you can relax and soak in the magical sunsets every evening.

We need to question certain things in order to gain insight, deeper knowledge and wisdom. Yoga philosophy is the name of the thoughts and ideas that underlies the development of the yoga
techniques. Traditionally the ancient yogis searched to investigate the deep structures of life, and
the path of yoga philosophy is therefore a journey towards the core of what it is like to be human. Yoga philosophy can be seen as the key to unlock the potential of the old Indian techniques, and it
is invaluable if you wish to navigate in the jungle of the modern yoga world.

    To know – Knowledge – Knowing&nbsp;&nbsp;

    Knowledge is finite. It is the facts of life: Earth is round; the sky is blue. Knowledge has defined

edges, beginnings and endings, a specific&nbsp;this is it; it is information the mind grasps in

completeness until it doesn’t; for our understanding of things evolves. One day we drive cars that

pollute the air. The next day we don’t. One day we spank children, thinking that it is the best

learning. The next day we don’t. On one day we separate ourselves from the world. The next day

we don’t.&nbsp;

    Like a monkey, we swing from one narrow vine of knowledge to the next, holding on until we have

the desire or courage to release our familiar grip and reach new understanding. Knowledge is an&nbsp;it.

Knowing is fluid, an&nbsp;ing. It is everywhere all at once, rather than in the confines of our limited

personal mind. Like the wind, it blows through us unexpectedly and without us having any clear

sense of its source, its cause. A sudden stroke of insight, gust of creativity, blast of concern that in

no way can be made sense of by the facts of life. Mysteriously, this inexhaustible universal knowing mind exhales itself&nbsp;through&nbsp;us and is then gone,

leaving perhaps only a chill, a resonance, a trace, a reminder of its presence.

    Interaction process

    In this immersion, your teachers Ulrica Norberg and Mike Bloch- Levermore will take you on a more

interactive process through groups of philosophical thoughts around the Self, study the different

views on the yoga practice (tantra, vedanta) and look at ways to approach the practice, ourselves

and the world.


</p>
<p>
    
    
    So rather than technical readings of the old texts, you will experience a presentation of the ideas

through a more&nbsp;light-hearted and approachable style, engaging you more interactively in the

process. Sessions will include film clips, interaction, role-playing as well as reflection and

discussion. The reason for this priority is simple. The first and foremost point of yoga and yoga philosophy is to

reduce suffering and promote more freedom, connection and happiness. And when yoga

philosophy becomes too much of an academic study it becomes difficult to feel the thoughts in

order to let go of old perception and open up to understanding rather than belief.

since Mike and Ulrica thinks it is better to read the texts after being guided with a map of what to

<b>Ulrica Norberg</b>, a well known and renewed yogamaster with decades of experience from yoga, meditation and spiritual living. &nbsp;Ulrica is also an academic with a masters degree in Film and Human Sciences where Literature, Philosophy and Indology – Indian Philosophy (Stockholm University) was some of the trails of knowledge she immersed herself in. &nbsp;Ulrica believes that in order to grasp something as abstract as philosophy, it needs to be presented in a multi-fashioned way. Therefore she involves, film, discussion, practice and reflection in to the interaction process.

<b>Mike Bloch-Levermore</b>, believes yoga philosophy classes should be entertaining, applicable and understandable, and thrives on empowering students with a greater depth of understanding behind their practices and offerings. As well as hosting nerdy talks, Mike provides philosophy lectures on yoga teacher trainings with a light-hearted and approachable style, always attempting to make the complexities of yoga traditions more easy to grasp. &nbsp;Blending mild irreverence with moments of deep profundity, Mike always attempts to create a warm and inviting learning environment, intended for practitioners of all levels to learn and ask questions. Originally from the UK where he gained a degree in Western Philosophy, he recently has studied Hinduism, Yoga and Sanskrit with Oxford University, and with Seth Powell of Harvard University.

    Embodied Yin™ teacher training is for anyone to embark on a journey towards becoming a yin yoga teacher/facilitator. If you haven’t completed a foundational yoga teacher training, you wont be getting a certificate to teach just yet. This training is also for anyone already teaching yoga/movement/dance etc. who want more tools and a more embodied way of facilitating. You can also join to deepen your studies, if teaching is not in the books just yet.

    The full training (training material + some independent work) is +50h. The price includes the 50h yoga alliance certified training (part of the Authentic Flow 300h training), extensive manual, online content to study after the course and snacks.

    All teacher participants that also finish the certification pathway (homework and practicum) successfully will get a certificate and can begin teaching Embodied Yin™ and “normal” yin yoga classes.

    Authentic Flow / Embodied Yin™ is a RYS200 and RYS300 registered school with YA since many years and the training can be added as continuing education at Yoga Alliance for anyone that successfully finished the full training and certification process.

    In this teacher training we will be practicing several different approaches and protocols into more somatic and embodied way of moving and being. These will include tools like Yin Yoga asanas, QiGong, free movement, Body-Mind Centering but also approaches from Music Therapy, Movement therapy, Authentic movement, Continuum, Somatic Experiencing and more.

    Experiential anatomy is an embodied means of gaining increased somatic awareness and understanding. This approach to learning goes beyond conventional anatomy study methods that typically rely on images and diagrams to learn the map and function of the systems of the body. Experiential anatomy brings us into the felt sense of the actual territory through direct experiencing. With an experiential focus, we can directly discover, and embody, movement of fluids, bones, organs, meridians etc.

    CHINESE MEDICINE &amp; TAOISM

    Traditional Chinese Medicine is rooted in the ancient philosophy of Taoism and dates back more than 2,500 years. In the universe the harmony between two opposing yet complementary forces, yin and yang, supports wellbeing and happiness. Disease results from an imbalance between these forces. The Five elements, or Five Phases: water, wood, fire, earth and metal, symbolically represent all creation and phenomena. The relationships between these elements explain the functioning of the body, how it changes during disease and how to best ensure that Qi (pronounced chee), blood and body fluids that are the most important fundamental substances necessary for life, continue to flow through the body, maintaining health.

    Satu has been teaching for more than 24 years and is known for her very unique, otherworldly and authentic transmission. Satu is specialised in Somatics and Embodiment practices.  She is an experienced yoga teacher (ERYT2000) with more than 13000 teaching hours under her belt, Embodied Flow™ senior teacher, a teacher training facilitator, Creator of Authentic Flow, Shake the Dust and Co-creator of Embodied Flow™ Yin program and a Reiki Master.

    At the moment (year 2023), Satu is a registered BMCA student and enrolled to a  Somatic Movement Education Program (Body-Mind Centering) that she hopes to finish in 2024.

    Satu charms with her intuitive, all seeing facilitation, her Shamanic roots, goddess vibe and a big big love for classical non-dual Tantrik teachings. <b>Cynthia Reschke</b> – Cynthia is a devoted yogi and eternal student of life. She fell in love with yoga about 25 years ago discovering different styles of yoga until she emerged in a 500h Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training in 2012. Ever since then she is committed to sharing what she dearly holds in her heart. She hosted the Imagine Academy Yoga Teacher Trainings in Geneva for 6 years, blessed to witness the positive transformation in others, as they blossomed into the best version of themselves. Her mission is to encourage everyone to engage in sincere self-examination toward a healthier, happier, and more meaningful life.

    About the teachers

    <b>Cynthia Reschke</b> – Cynthia is a devoted yogi and eternal student of life. She fell in love with yoga about 25 years ago discovering different styles of yoga until she emerged in a 500h Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training in 2012. Ever since then she is committed to sharing what she dearly holds in her heart. She hosted the Imagine Academy Yoga Teacher Trainings in Geneva for 6 years, blessed to witness the positive transformation in others, as they blossomed into the best version of themselves. Her mission is to encourage everyone to engage in sincere self-examination toward a healthier, happier, and more meaningful life.

    Cynthia's growing curiosity on the path of self-knowledge led her to continuously study and deepen her understanding. She always aims to evolve her own practice in order to remain in the flow of the ever-ongoing change in life. She is inspired by different lineages and ultimately advocates to connect to that immense wisdom we all carry inside without exception and to follow our own heart's innermost desire to fulfill its purpose.

    <b>Amir Jaan</b> – Amir's fascination in the White Tantric Temple Arts began over 25 years ago. These are energetic practices that establish, strengthen, and sustain optimum health; physical, mental, and emotional. Amir's years of teaching with the general public, charities supporting people in recovery, young offenders, and private consultations for those with particular and/or special needs, have contributed to the breath of his experience.

     Amir's specialist knowledge in the field of Humanology has forged him into a powerful instrument to assist those with a desire or need to approach character and health reform-ation, in an organic, safe, and self healing way. The many years of teaching have refined Amir's intuitive observation and sensitivity to what is required in each moment for each of those present in the theatre in which he shares his work.

    Amir's ongoing inquiry and investigation around ideas, science, physical and spiritual anatomy and the way they all work together have led him to develop fusion of yoga practices. These incorporate exquisite music and crosspollinate complementary practices from a variety of wisdom traditions.

    This Retreat is open to people of all levels and backgrounds, and no previous experience in yoga or meditation is needed.

Anna-Mari is a yoga/movement &amp; meditation teacher who loves music, stories &amp; exploring movement (+900 hours of yoga teacher/somatic movement trainings). She's facilitated dozens of yoga retreats and yoga sailings. Her background is in gender studies, sociology, embodied yoga, somatic movement &amp; classical tantra. Her style of teaching is intuitive and gentle. She's using soundscape/music, archetypes and intuitive writing as tools for self inquiry on her yoga &amp; movement lessons.

We meet in all-inclusive retreat form. 3 steps, a total of 28 retreat days, stretching over 9 months. Between the steps we meet in online classes and share support, home assignments and ways to assimilate the yoga into your daily life. Since the course runs over som many months you get a good chance to assimilate the yoga and the teachings into your life in a way that makes sense to you. You get to meet the everyday life and possible challenges while still having the support from the techers and the group. This way you can really grow into the role of a yogi and yoga teacher.

About the teachers

<b>Sky Akasha</b> is the main teacher of the course. He found a passion for yoga in 1991 and has taught several styles of yoga since year 2000, always coming back to the simple and deep principles in the tradition of Hatha Yoga. Gracefully incorporating wisdom from Qigong, Ayurveda and Bhagavad Gita (yoga shastra) into his classes gives his delivery a certain integrity and well-rounded approach.

His dedicated studies in Vedanta for the past 20+ years as well as a 1 year residential course in Ayurveda with Dr Lad , has given a good grounding in the purpose and practices of Yoga as a way of achieving balance, harmony and total fulfillment in this life. His classes are always spontaneous and deeply honoring of his students.

As he says, “I’m like the milkman, I just deliver the milk, fulfilling the sacred and even unspoken orders of the students”. Taught with relaxed passion, humour and clear understanding of the poses and their benefits, one finds his unique classes inspiring and rewarding.

Sky is the founder of Sama Yoga and since 2001 he has taught full time on courses, teacher trainings, festivals as well as weekly classes in many parts of the world. Since 2007 he is a registered “Experienced Teacher” in the Yoga Alliance.
