About this session

Nora Kerekes is an Associate Professor and Research Director for the study Yoga in Correctional Settings – a randomized controlled study. In this talk she presents the background of the study which is the biggest randomized study ever done on the effects of yoga in a prison environment, And talks about how it has been received internationally. It can be concluded that the yoga practice in Swedish correctional facilities has positive effects on the inmates’ well-being and on considerable risk factors associated with recidivism, such as impulsivity and antisocial behavior. Accordingly, the results show that yoga practice can play an important part in the rehabilitation of prison inmates and help them develop self discipline and a more positive sense of self worth.
