Spine, Hips and Shoulders

- a workshop series with Yoga Prehab

Deepen your yoga practice through principles of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics. The focus will be on expanding your knowledge and understanding of your own body in motion as well as technical skills and progressions based on your individual prerequisites.

Part 2. Hips

There’s no holy grail awaiting at the end of a deeper ‘hip opening’. In yoga practice, the hips are a topic that easily gets mystified and mistreated. Let’s talk ‘real talk’ when it comes to our hips in yoga practice and how we can serve this strong part of our bodies that holds great potential.

For who?

You should have a regular yoga practice. It doesn't matter if you have previous knowledge of anatomy, physiology, or biomechanics.

We'll go over

  • Anatomy, Physiology, and Biomechanics of the spine, hips, and shoulders
  • Mobility and creating health joints and bodily structures
  • Practical application to yoga asana

The focus during this workshop will be on the physical practice and not the theory.

You will leave with a deeper understanding of the shoulders, hips, and spine that you can apply to your own practice.

Welcome to an explorative and proactive approach to yoga asana practice.

About the teacher

Sara Ström views the body as an interesting thing. Her view of the body is holistic, she sees it as one unit. Her teaching is about understanding the body and its movements through the studies and practice of yoga, anatomy, and kinesiology. Sara believes that physical practice should be individually tailored to each person and the body that performs it, not the other way around. The aim is to enjoy the body that we live with every day. She wants her classes and workshops to be a place where body and spirit are nourished and strengthened and inspire through the joy of movement.

For the last 10 years Sara has been working with yoga and movement training, most recently as one of the head teachers at the yoga teacher trainings at The Nordic Yoga Institute. She is also part of team Yogobe where she teaches online classes and contributes with content on related topics. You can read more about Sara here.

"As you might have guessed already, I’m kind of a nerd when it comes to health and movement education. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and I’m currently studying a Master’s degree in Biomechanics and Sport Physiology at The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences. I’ve also studied movement analysis and sports medicine at an advanced university level, most currently at Karolinska Institutet."
